Lynette Grandison - Fellowship Award Sub-Committee Coordinator


Members:

Sierra Pacific Region Fellowship Awards are financed by an fee in the amount of $4.00 which is assessed each member as a portion of their annual Region dues.

Each year the sub-committee decides the number, the amount and the type of fellowship or grant awards to be given based on the funds available.

The sub-committee conducts a preliminary screening of applications prior to interviewing, the candidates are interviewed for final selection of the winner(s).

Application deadline is February 15, 2008.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR AWARD

The applicant must:

  • be an outstanding student working for a doctoral degree, preferably in the last year of study. (Soroptimists and immediate family members are excluded from applying.)
  • must be working or studying for a doctorate or equivalent in an area of study benefiting or improving the lives of women and girls.
  • must be a citizen of a country represented in the Soroptimist International of the Americas, Inc.
  • must reside within the boundaries of the Region and be enrolled in an accredited university or satellite program located within the boundaries of the Region at the time of the application or for completion of the degree.
  • must submit a comprehensive statement of purpose and projection of how their doctoral program of studies and dissertation may contribute now or letter to the welfare of humanity.
  • must submit an application prior to February 15 describing their educational background in detail, honors granted during their undergraduate and graduate university enrollment, work experience, travel experience, and plans for the future. Also must include how far they have advanced towards their doctoral degree (oral examination, language examination, dissertation, etc.)
  • must have a recommendation from the Chairman of the major department in which they are working for their doctorate, plus one additional letter from a faculty member.
  • while need is not a determining factor in the granting of a Fellowship, need among the applicants may be considered if the candidates meet all other requirements.
