SOROPTIMISTS MAKE a DIFFERENCE with “SATURDAY of SERVICE”

Lora Allanson and Nancy Woodling EderIn 2005, for the third year, Soroptimist International of Santa Cruz joined more than 150 clubs around the world for the annual “Saturday of Service” event in which Soroptimist members plan and carry out a hands-on service project in their local area.

The Santa Cruz club partnered with Soroptimist International of Capitola-By-The-Sea and the Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Cruz and San Benito Counties for its Saturday of Service project. Santa Cruz and San Benito counties have thousands of residents (presently more than 47,000 per month) who require supplemental food aid to help make ends meet. Second Harvest Food Bank solicits, acquires, and distributes more than 5 million pounds of food a year through 120 agencies and programs. By packing 1,704 bags of food, Soroptimists helped the bank distribute more food to more people.

Second Harvest Food BankThe Saturday of Service event brings members together to improve communities around the world and increase international goodwill and understanding. For more information about Soroptimist International of Santa Cruz, please email SI Santa Cruz.
