Soroptimist International of Watsonville held an Live Auction/Luncheon. This project actually began early in the year when some members got an early start on making handcrafted items. Our members made and donated handcrafted items ranging from quilts to professional-quality photographs of some of our area’s most scenic sites. These items were sold at the Live Auction/Luncheon. This event was organized and publicized by our club and attended by club members and members of the community. Club members also conducted the auction. The money raised at this event is donated to local charities. This event also gives our club the opportunity to inform guests in attendance about Soroptimist and our club’s activities, and recruit new members. This fall our club raised approximately $340 in donations from our members to purchase holiday turkeys for local charities. Members also rang the bell for the Salvation Army at our local Gottschalks store. Because we live in a fairly small town, we see people we know and we have the opportunity to explain that we are volunteering for the Salvation Army as part of our Soroptimist Club’s community Service. |
