SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL of LOS GATOS-SARATOGA COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS

SI Los Gatos had a Sunday of Service on March 6, 2005, at the Los Gatos Farmers Market. Marin Gourmet donated spreads, marinades and crackers for our booth. All proceeds were given to Promise Worldwide to aid Tsunami relief in India to help women and children. We raised $535.00

SI Los Gatos-Saratoga service project for this year is to raise monies for the House on the Hill, a 17-bed alcohol-and-drug residential treatment program for women with young children. This facility has operated since 1994, and is supported by ARH Recovery Homes, Inc., and contracted by the Santa Clara Valley Health and Hospital Systems. The target group consists of parenting women 18 years and older, recovering from addictions, domestic violence and sexual abuse, and their 0–5-year-old children.

House on the Hill, a six-month residential recovery home is the only program of its kind in Santa Clara County that allows children to remain with their mothers. This program is very successful in enabling women and their young children to return to a community as a clean and sober family, able to cope with the major issues in their lives, and have a high sense of self-worth and positive family values. While conducting an on-site viewing of the facility, we found a great deal of need for physical items; new mattresses and beds, new rocking chairs, new blankets and linens. We contributed to the House on the Hill during December 1999, and will make another contribution following our major spring fundraiser.
