Fifteen years ago, SI Millbrae-San Bruno sponsored
the Josephine Waugh Soroptimist Park in Millbrae, as a way to have the
park and the good works of the Soroptimist recognized. Josephine Waugh
was the first woman mayor of Millbrae, and a charter member of our club.
A speaker from the Millbrae Department of Parks and Recreation emphasized
the importance of the park to the earths survival through recycling.
We have continued to make this environmental program an annual event.
This year we created a memorial for one of our members.
Another ongoing service project has been our support
of the Adopt-A-Family program. We provide mentoring, as well as gifts
during the holidays. We also donated money for books to be distributed
through this program. One of our continuing hands-on projects has been
to provide personal hygiene packages for the area womens shelters.
Unfortunately, the need for these items is still very prevalent, but we
are honored to be able to help these women regain a sense of their self-esteem. |
