Making a Difference for Women
Violet Richardson Women's Opportunity Award
Women's Opportunity Award
The Women's Opportunity Award aids women seeking to improve their
economic status by gaining additional skills, training and education.
The program helps women who, as the primary wage earners for their families,
must improve their employment status by entering or returning to the work
force. Our 2006 winner is Shannon Seidner. She is a single mother raising
two children and has the dedication and mental drive to show her children
that even if you don't have much in life you can always be great, and
with smart decisions, be successful. Shannon's ultimate career goal is
to be a Register Nurse, and she is currently doing her prerequisite classes
for the nursing program at the College of San Mateo. She received $1000
from our club, and she was also the Sierra Pacific Region award winner.

Our 2005 winner was Norma Marchetti, who worked part-time
at USPS, attended Skyline college and was raising 5 children.
Making a Difference for Women Award
The Making a Difference for Women Award honors women who are making extraordinary
differences in the lives of other women. Award recipients are woman who
have worked to improve the lives of women and girls, have had a significant
impact on the lives of women and girls, and inspire and encourage other
women. Marijane Datson is our 2006 recipient. She is a newly retired Skyline
College literature professor who has made a difference in the lives of
many students and created an environment of cultural enrichment in the
Bay Area.. Three years ago, she created the WOW! Women on Writing Conference,
bringing people together who love to write and read literature by and
about women, and has pledged her award of $1000 to WOW.

Our 2005 winner was Rhonda Ceccato, executive director
of Sitike Counseling Center which is nonprofit organization that provides
addiction treatment services, including a Women's Day Treatment program.
Rhonda has been working at Sitike since 1993 making extraordinary differences
in the lives of women.
Violet Richardson Award
The Violet Richardson Award honors young women between the ages of 14
and 17 for their volunteer efforts. Berenice Marcelo is our recipient.
Berenice has volunteered at the South San Francisco Library's Community
Learning Center since 2003 where she is committed to helping children.
Because she is bilingual in English and Spanish, she has been particularly
beneficial to children who have emigrated to SSF. Berenice received $500
and the SSF Community Learning Center received $500.
Our 2005 winner was Vanessa Rosa and she won due to
her volunteering at the South San Francisco Library's Community Learning
Center and the Magnolia Senior Center, and for her efforts raising money
for various youth groups.
