Step
Into Spring
Undaunted by a power shortage in the middle of our third
annual fundraiser on March 7, “Step Into Spring 2008” raised over $12,000,
which was a 20% increase over 2007. Nearly 200 attendees continued to
enjoy sumptuous appetizers, sweet treats, wine, beer, a silent auction,
music, and several exhibitors while using flashlights, cell phones, and
about three ceiling lights in the South San Francisco Municipal Services
Building.
Cheryl Grantano was the event chair, Sylvia Payne and
Liza Normandy coordinated the food donations, and Jo Zemke and Margie
Casagrande created the lovely auction baskets from the donated items that
Soroptimist members gathered from various merchants, businesses, organizations,
and individuals including themselves. The exhibitors included:
Sports collectibles presented by Lefty’s
Sports Card Store
Cooking demonstrations by Pampered Chef
Gardening tips from Green Shelter Landscaping
Harley Davidson motorcycle showcased by
Dudley Perkins
Wine tasting presented by Magnificient
Gifts
Fashions presented by Weekenders
Skin care products by Jamileh for You

Day in the Park
Day in the Park is usually held on a Saturday towards the end of September
at Orange Memorial Park in South San Francisco. This is a well-attended
family event featuring over 200 booths, occupied by non-profit clubs,
service groups, staff from city and county agencies and departments, church
groups, local businesses, and crafters, all representing a wide cross
section of the community. We are the only booth that sells water and soda,
which makes this event a great fundraiser for our group
Another big feature of Day in the Park is the citywide
raffle drawing that is coordinated by our very own Cheryl Grantano. The
beauty of this raffle is that we receive the proceeds for all the raffle
tickets that we sell, so it is an easy fundraising acitivity for us. The
city, through donations, funds the cost of printing and provides the prizes
.

Helping to make the 2006 Day in the park
a success were members Cisca Hansen, Margie Casagrande, Chris
Mann, Dorothy Buhagier and volunteers from our S Club

Citywide Garage Sale
The Citywide Garage Sale is usually held in the beginning of September.
During the year, Soroptimist members collect quality items to resell at
this event. For last few years we have had a prime selling spot at the
Plymire-Schwarz Museum at 519 Grand Avenue.
