SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL of SOUTH PENINSULA
COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS
During July of each year, the service committee
of SI South Peninsula reviews all requests for donations, and decides
where the funds will go and how much the reserve will be. Our regular
service project recipients are:
- Salvation Army: In addition to donating money,
we participate in several hands-on activities. We pack food baskets
during the holidays, help with their annual golf tournament, provide
chaperones for their special summer programs, help with their fundraisers,
and several club members serve on their Board of Directors.
- Kainos
Training Center: This is a work center and residential home for
mentally challenged adults. We donate money for their operating expenses
and training programs.
- Shelter
Network: We donate money, which has been used to landscape a new
house, as well as for their operating expenses.
- Center
for Domestic Violence Prevention: We donate money, which has been
used for their children's art program, and providing new clothes for
women returning to work.
- Project
READ: We sponsor and participate as a team in their fundraising
event, a Trivia Bee.
Our continuing hands-on service project is with
our local adolescence shelter home, YFA
Daybreak. We adopt them at Christmas and have provided
backpacks full of clothing and personal hygiene items, as well as gift
certificates for movies and food. In addition, we donate any extra food
from our events.
