SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL of AMADOR COUNTY
COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS

SI Amador County hosts a party for disadvantaged children in Amador County early in December. We get names from the schools, churches, and social services. The families fill out a request form and send it back to us. That way we have the names and ages of the children. We have music and games. Each child receives a toy from Santa and is given a goody bag of treats as well as pictures with Santa.

We have always given at least two scholarships, one to each high school in Amador County. This year we have added a new recognition scholarship. It was started for people to give donations for any number of reasons. They can be for gifts in someone’s name or remembrances for deaths. This has been very successful for our club and will be continued next year.

Each month we honor a student from alternating high schools in our county. A counselor at the school chooses the students. The student’s picture and write-up appears in our local paper. At our awards presentations, the students are recognized and given a certificate.

Each year SI of Amador takes part in a local health fair. We take Polaroid pictures of young children and put them in a folder that has a place for information about the child. The parents then have a picture and current information in case of an emergency.
