SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL of CALAVERAS COUNTY Saturday of Service, 2004

Soroptimist International Calaveras County Among 300,000 Women Worldwide Participating in “Saturday of Service,” March 6, 2004

Twenty-three Soroptimist International Calaveras County women were just a few who joined over 300,000 Soroptimists worldwide to participate in a Saturday of Service, March 6, 2004.

This year’s Saturday of Service was entitled “Turning Back Time,” an elaborate Vintage Fashion Show and Tea, hosted by Soroptimist International Calaveras County. Ladies over 65 of the Calaveras County community were invited to share a special nostalgic afternoon with the residents of the Foothill Lodge Retirement Facility in Angels Camp, free of charge. The fashion show featured vintage fashions from the 1920's through the 50’s, with more than 25 fashions modeled by Soroptimist club members and volunteers. Guests, who were encouraged to wear their own vintage garments and hats to the tea, where not shy when asked to model their spectacular fashions during the show.

The afternoon was a huge success, attended by 72 senior ladies who were taken back in time to reminisce and enjoy a cup of tea together. Soroptimist Recording Secretary, Chryl Hillis, noted that “every woman left there with a smile on her face for the experience of sharing with us a few vintage fashions, some laughs and most of all sharing nostalgia.”

Soroptimist Paulette Stelte commented, “the smiles around the room at Foothill Lodge were priceless, something that no amount of money could purchase! Service to our community is the Soroptimist mission and working together as a team always makes my heart sing!”

The Soroptimist organization has established clubs in literally every country in the world and they all participate in advancing issues and programs to promote the best for women.
