SATURDAY of SERVICE 2006 CELEBRATION
DELIGHTS CALAVERAS COUNTY SENIORS

Margo Mohn presents a teddy bear to Rose Mitchell at Country Haven

Arriving in their bright red Soroptimist T-shirts, Soroptimist club members descended upon Mark Twain Convalescent Hospital and Country Haven Assisted Living in San Andreas Saturday, March 4, delighting seniors with teddy bears, potted plants, balloons, home-made fudge, and baseball caps for the gentlemen. Residents enjoyed a day of pampering, entertained with familiar songs by Kathy Mazzaferro, exotic dance by Sally Hughes, and flute by Susan Giannini.

The Soroptimists polished some of the ladies’ nails, notes were written to loved ones, inspirational short stories were read and some just sat and visited with those who were not well enough to leave their rooms. It was an emotional day watching their faces light up, some with tears of joy while clutching their teddy bear and most of all knowing that we cared about them.

President Shirley Ryan, Pat Garbez and Tiffany C’de Baca deliver teddy bears to residents at Mark Twain Convalescent Hospital

Thank you to Bonnie Schaeffer’s mom for donating the wonderful teddy bears from her collection; to Tiffany C’de Baca for the beautiful potted plants; to Pat Garbez for the delicious home-made fudge; to Jerri Mills for the balloons; to Norma Rash, Margo Mohn, and Shirley Ryan for their shopping trips for games, books, lotions, and note cards; to Robin Ferrucci for donating nail polish and Bonnie’s daughter-in-law for Baby Wipes for the manicures; to Bank of Lodi for the ball caps; and especially to Kathy Mazzaferro, Sally Hughes, and Susan Giannini for the entertainment and Roberta Bean and her committee for coordinating the celebration. All who participated in this rewarding experience truly made a difference by adding a little sunshine in our community!
