SATURDAY of SERVICE 2007 CELEBRATION
SPRING INTO ACTION HEALTH & FITNESS FAIRE

Because obesity is running rampant in our county and throughout the nation, we wanted to provide an arena where several different approaches to weight management could be learned.

Successfully, at our SOS Celebration on March 3, 2007, SI Calaveras County members helped to educate the women and girls of their community about health and fitness by putting on a faire at the Bret Harte High School Gym. The faire emphasized healthy weight and body through diet and exercise, and included fitness and nutrition demonstrations by the University of California, Davis, Curves, Mark Twain St. Joseph's Hospital, Weight Watchers, Family 4 Fitness, Camp California Fitness and other specialists. Therapeutic massages, blood pressure screening, yoga and martial arts, exercise and weight management, and healthy snack demonstrations were presented to address the importance of a healthy body and well being.

SICC welcomed the public with information about Soroptimist, including the viewing of the "Live Your Dream" DVD, vouchers for our upcoming "Take Women to Heart campaign" in April and May for free cholesterol testing and screening and a raffle for a fitness center pass and health-related books.

Local schools were contacted before the SOS date to arrange for physical education credit to be granted to any student attending. The media was notified with press releases and banners were set up in front of the local high school, where the event was presented.

Soroptimist clubs in all four federations throughout the world participated in Saturday of Service projects on March 3 to make a difference in their local communities. Soroptimist Calaveras County has provided service to this county since 1947.
