WELCOME to DISTRICT III!

Welcome to the Dynamic District III web page. Clubs in our District have installed their new Board of Directors and are ready to start the New Year. May and June are busy months for the Clubs as they are preparing budgets, planning Installations and turning over the gavels to the new incoming Presidents.

We accomplished a lot last year and are looking forward to 2007-2008. Some of the projects completed in 2006-2007 which support women and girls included:

SI Amador County supported a local service club in their local high school (S Club) and gave scholarships to local high school girls.

SI Calaveras County takes Women to Heart and each spring offers cholesterol screening tests to all women in their community at no cost. (SI Calaveras was on the front cover of the International Soroptimist). In addition, they support the Baby Think it Over Campaign.

SI Groveland has a program called Best Day (Be Empowered Starting Today) which is a day to enrich the lives of 7th and 8th grade girls, provided funding for furniture for the Girl's cabin at Tuolumne Trails Camp for disabled children, gave scholarships to Tioga High School Girls, Supported Tioga High School "S" Club, supported the local High School Girls Basketball Team, and supported the Women's Healthy Hearth Campaign. In addition, another Family Wellness Faire was held last spring which provided low cost health screening and free services for the entire Groveland Community.

SI Lodi provided shelter for women and girls (Hope Harbor). This last year they installed security windows, provided clothing and did some hands on work at the shelter doing cleaning, etc.

SI Lodi Sunrise members paired up with live alone senior women and made personal contact weekly or monthly. They call this program the Senior Soroptimist Connection. Their other project is a helping hands project in which once a month during bad weather they are at the homeless shelter for women and children for a few hours to enable them to remain open when no staff is available.

SI Manteca planned a Saturday of Service event for 75 teen aged girls (Live Your Dream, had activities and parties at the Raymus Shelter for women and supported the Manteca Women's Leadership Conference.

SI Oakdalesupported the Junior Miss, did a Saturday of Service project for the Girl Scouts International Project. In addition, they supported the Women's Health Library and the Women's Transition House.

SI Riponsupported the Miss Almond Blossom/Miss Ripon contest. In addition, they provided a scholarship for a Senior Girl.

SI Sonora supported the building of three duplexes of 3 bedrooms each for reentering women who are head of household (Transitional Shelters) through the Mt. Women's Resource Center. In addition, they pay tournament fees for the Girls Water Polo team and sponsor and financially support the S-Club at Sonora High School.

SI Tracy Daybreak provided scholarships for high school girls.

SI Twain Harte did a self esteem workshop for girls in the local junior high school to prepare them for high school, sponsored and worked a booth at the Tuolumne County Health Fair dealing with women's issues and supported and built the girls softball field at Summerville High School. In addition, they completely furnished a house for a woman and child at the Mt. Women's Resource Center.

In addition, to the above all eleven clubs in the District participated in one or more of our Federation Projects including the Women's Opportunity Award program, the Founders Pennies program, the Club Campaign, President's Appeal and Saturday of Service.

I am very proud of the Clubs in District III and am humbled at the amount of service each Club provides. Just think if everyone in the world did what Soroptimist does wouldn't the world finally have reached Camelot?

We are looking for women who are willing to give of themselves to make our communities and world a better place for women and girls to be. If you are interested in becoming a Soroptimist please contact one our clubs or you can email me directly at DistrictIIIDirector@soroptimistspr.org.

Warm Regards,
