For the past several years Soroptimist International of Lodi's annual fund raiser has been a Mardi Gras. There is always wonderful food, dancing and gigantic raffle. In 2004-05 this event was changed to a Sock Hop. A wonderful time was had by all. There was even a visit from Elvis.
In the past SI Lodi has had a dinner-auction as our main fundraiser for the last nine years. We have netted as high as $12,000. The dinner was catered. An auctioneer handled the live auction with the assistance of several club members circulating the room showing the item up for bid. We also include a silent auction, which is always very successful. Items for both the live and silent auctions are obtained by our club members canvassing the community and from donations by our members. Our club standing rules state that "each member, active, sustaining, and life, will be required to donate the price of one ticket for each fund raising event held." This obligation can be satisfied by the purchase of a ticket or donation of an item, the value of which is equal to, or greater than the value or the ticket. We try to make paying for items as easy as possible and have a credit card machine there to accept Visa or MasterCard purchases. By having the dinner catered, the committee did not have to set up the tables, but spent approximately six hours transporting the auction items to the site and organizing the two auctions. |
