Lois Kobayashi is pleased to announce Soroptimist International of Oakdale received a grant of over $23,000 from Catholic Healthcare West (CHW). Lois Kobayashi and Barbara Marquis were among those attending the Stockton presentation ceremony on December 16. The grant was awarded to SIO for their work at the Oakdale Transitional House for battered women and children, in keeping with the club's goal to advance human rights and the status of women. Since 1997, SIO has maintained the transitional house in Oakdale for clients that are provided by Haven Women's Center of Stanislaus. Since that time, 30 women and their 51 children have started new lives with help from the program. "I was excited to attend the luncheon and have the opportunity to talk about the work we are doing," says Kobayashi. "We will be able to expand the program with this additional funding." The money from the grant will be used to provide professional counseling and classes locally for the women and children in the program and others needing these kinds of services in our community. The Community Grant Program allows CHW to partner with other nonprofit organizations that are working to improve the health status and quality of life in our communities. The grant was made available locally through Oak Valley Hospital District's affiliation with Catholic Healthcare West.
