SATURDAY OF SERVICE — SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL of RIPON

Saturday of Service, 2005

Soroptimist International of Ripon has adopted the garden of the City parking lot. One dozen of our membership began our Saturday at 8:00 a.m. at the parking lot with the objective of clearing weeds, trimming back the over-growth, and finally, planting new pansies.

Saturday of Service, 2004

We maintain one of our local City parking lot planter areas. There are three good sized planters.

The area was in dire need of weeding and replanting. Approximately 12 members showed up on Saturday to do what we thought was an hour project. Well, about three hours later we had finally finished. We hung our sign over the City of Ripon sign, so as people drove by they would know this was a group of Soroptimists. We had a great time, despite the snails and worms.

Saturday of Service, 2003

On February 8, 2003, Soroptimist International of Lodi, Lodi Sunrise, Manteca and Ripon joined more than 150 clubs around the world in the second annual “Saturday of Service” event in which Soroptimist members plan and carry out a hands-on service project in their local area.

The clubs volunteered at the Mary Graham Hall in Stockton. Projects included presenting the children with their own personalized book. Joan Morris of SI Sunrise Club wrote their names in the books in calligraphy. SI Manteca members assisted the children in decorating Valentine cookies. Lodi Sunrise helped the children make bead key rings and SI Lodi members taught them how to make bead bracelets with their names on them.

Members played games, read books and enjoyed a pizza lunch with the children.
