SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL of SONORA
COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS

SI of Sonora has adopted the patients in the Long-Term and Transitional Care Units at one of our local hospitals. Members visit patients on a regular basis, run weekly recreational activities such as BINGO and provide gifts at Christmas to ensure that all residents receive a gift from Santa.

Senior Services: We provide a variety of safety support items to senior citizens in our community such as flashlights, light sensors, and scholarships to Lifeline. Lifeline is an emergency response system that allows a senior citizen to remain living in their own home while having 24 hour-a-day safety net of an instant connection to hospital personnel in emergency situations.

Scholarships: We award five scholarships to graduating high school seniors at Sonora High School; four book scholarships of $250 and one general scholarship, the Mary Ellen George Memorial, which is $500.

Various Community Service Projects:

  • The Tuolumne County Spelling Bee: Members act as judges at the Bee and provide a beautiful dictionary to the winners of the first three places.
  • Tuolumne County Health Fair: Members volunteer their services to provide vision screening exams during the two-day fair.
  • Girls Softball Tournament: We provide support to this annual event.
