Soroptimist International of Atwater Celebrates Founders Day October 6, 2004

The Turlock club chartered Soroptimist International of Atwater in 1960. We were extremely proud to have Evelyn Menzies appear at our meeting to share with us about our humble beginnings. Evelyn shared how her grass-roots effort worked on getting the club off the ground. Evelyn's first advocate was Em Adams. Em Adams was the first President in 1960–1961. In her honor, the club created the Em Adams Lifetime Member's Award. Em Adams awards recipients has been Sybil Crookham 2001–2004 and Ruth McIver 2004-2007. The award is given to those who show total support for Soroptimism. Giving their all and going above and beyond what is called for in the cause.

Evelyn still has the dress and shoes she wore the day of the event. She displayed the dress during her presentation. Evelyn's talk was inspirational for all those present, especially for the club's two newest members. Evelyn is still busy in her own club since she is currently serving in her third term as President. This is real dedication. What a wonderful opportunity to learn from a person like Evelyn.
