SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL of CERES
Soroptimists Encouraging Women
Identifying Project
Stanislaus Recovery Center and Redwood Family Center

WINNER OF THE 2004-2005 CATHERINE DEAN OUTSTANDING SERVICE AWARD!

Soroptimist International of Ceres began an on-going identifying project in September, 2003. Named SEW (Soroptimists Encouraging Women), the project has been designed to serve the Stanislaus Recovery Center which works with people dealing with addictions. We have now added Redwood Family Center, which assists women who are participating in the 12 step recovery program.

Our Soroptimists Encouraging Women project has two goals:

  • To act as mentors and to assist the women at Stanislaus Recovery Center and Redwood Family Center in exploring, developing and utilizing their own personal strengths, and
  • To provide service for women in our community.

Members of the Ceres Club make monthly presentations to the women at the Centers. Other club members will assist with refreshments, materials, and other needed assistance.

Topics include:

  • Color Code, a personality check
  • Resumes / Interview Skills
  • Dressing For Success
  • Telephone Etiquette
  • Self Defense
  • Make-up
  • Child Care
  • Body Wise, presented by a chiropractor
  • Financial Pointers
  • Self Knowledge and Esteem

Evaluation forms are given to the women in the audiences for their feedback.

Follow up articles are incuded in our newsletters each month.

In addition to the monthly workshops, Soroptimist International of Ceres gathers gently worn clothing once a month at club meeting to donate to the Clothing Closet at Stanislaus Recovery Center.

This is a true “Hands On” service project and our club members are very excited to be a part of making a difference for these women.
