SOROPTIMISTS TO ATTEND CONFERENCE

Members of Soroptimist International of Chowchilla will join 300 other Soroptimists at the Sierra Pacific Region of Soroptimist International of the Americas, Inc., on April 21-23, 2006 at The Marriott in Santa Clara, California. Local Soroptimist Members will join Soroptimists from 44 other Soroptimist clubs in central California for this three-day annual event.

The conference will highlight a years’ worth of community service by local Soroptimist clubs, plus featuring programs and projects from Soroptimist International of the Americas and Soroptimist International.

Also at the conference, numerous awards will be presented to local clubs for outstanding work in service and membership. A variety of recognition awards and scholarships for students and adults will be presented at the conference from among nominations made by local Soroptimist clubs.

Soroptimist International of Chowchilla has presented the following awards since June 2005: $1,000 Scholarships to graduating Seniors, Lacey Calley and Phillip Vaught, at Chowchilla Union High School; 2 Citizenship Awards to graduating 8th graders at Wilson Middle School; 2 Citizenship Awards to graduating 8th graders at Dairyland School; Women’s Opportunity Award to April Zinser of Merced; Violet Richardson Award to Amelia Upton of Chowchilla.

The club donated to the following: RUSH AAU Girls Basketball Team, Chowchilla Summer Theater, American Cancer Society Relay for Life and Daffodil Days, Chowchilla Hospital, Survivors of Hurricane Katrina, Madera County Academic Decathlon, CUHS Decathlon Team, Ministerial Christmas Basket Program, Easter Decorating Contest, and many others.

The club also donates refreshments at the Veteran’s Commemoration Ceremony and the Peace Officer’s Ceremony. Saturday Breakfast at the Relay for Life is also donated by Soroptimist International of Chowchilla.
