WELCOME to SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL of GUSTINE-NEWMAN! President
Pat Snoke President's Message It is an honor to be elected President of Soroptimist
International of Gustine-Newman. It is a joy to work with our members,
our friends. This year of 2007-2008 promises to be one of our best. We
already have new members and have more events planned for this year than
ever before. We will host the District IV meeting on October 20th at the Orestimba Presbyterian Church here in Newman. This is the first time we have hosted a district meeting since I have been a member and I have been a member for 13 years. We have a great team headed by Val Knittel and it promises to be the best meeting held in years. Margaret Martinho is preparing a wonderful booklet for our members that will be the envy of the whole Sierra Pacific Region. She also is our web master and provides us with one of the best web sites on the internet. Check it out. Val Knittel started our newsletter last year and will continue with it again this year. It could be a winner. Let's get her articles as soon as possible…photos too. We have expanded our service projects to include a dental program at Von Renner School held in conjunction with Soroptimist Modesto North. We also will be preparing pastries for the Wolfsen Octoberfesta. We have already had one fund raiser; the Newman Fall Festival Fashion Show. It was a beautiful show with great refreshments and it was financially very successful. Thanks to all the members who contributed to this fundraiser. We have at least three more fundraisers planned. Looks like it is going to be a busy but gratifying year. OFFICERS for 2007-2008
DISTRICT IV Meeting We hosted the District IV Meeting in October. It was lots of hard work, but again our club came through, Of course, the highlight of the meeting was the fabulous goodie bags filled with wondrous items, many prepared by Pat Maisetti and her mom, Zelma Willingham. The menu was fantastic and we received many, many compliments. Susan Mattos, President and Publisher of Mattos Newspapers, was the guest speaker. She gave a light hearted talk on her trials as a women in business and gave us some tips that we can use to help get our club news in the newspaper. We learned that It helps to build a relationship with the newspaper staff, to be prepared with timely information, and to be organized. This makes it easy for the reporter to get the information needed and to take photos After lunch, Val Knittel presented a large box of canned foods collected from our members to Ron and Valerie Arnold of the Agape Food Pantry. Governor Lauren Ogbourne gave out club awards. Our club received recognition for participating in the 2007 Women's Opportunity Award, for outstanding work in all four areas of the Renaissance Campaign, for recruitment of four or more new members during the past year and as a Bronze Club for our contribution to the 2006-2007 Annual Club Campaign
