COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS

• Madera County Superintendent of Schools—Academic Decathalon
  In February of each year, the high schools in Madera County compete against one another in various areas of academics. Soroptimist members have traditionally participated as both speech and interview judges as well as giving a monetary donation.
• Camp Fire USA
  Camperships for summer camp. Each year our club sponsors two children to attend our local Camp Fire USA Resident Camp. This sponsorship allows children to experience the outdoors in a very rustic setting. Making memories that last a lifetime.
• American Cancer Society—Relay for Life
  In June of each year our club sponsors a team of walkers to participate in the local Relay for Life. Members collect sponsors for the event and for 24 hours SI Madera has participants walking for a cure for Cancer.
• Madera County Arts Council—Concerts in the Park
  Each year our Madera County Arts Council provides concerts in Town and Country Park. This is an open-air setting where people come together to enjoy music and each other. Our financial support helps ensure that this opportunity is available for our community.
• Madera Unified School District—Madera Reads
  In the spring our club participates in this wonderful literary experience by purchasing books and reading to children in their classrooms. Everyone who participates comes away with a new sense of how important reading is in our world.
• Madera County Arts Council—PACES Program
  Soroptimist International of Madera's yearly donation to the PACES program helps fill a void in public school's art programs. Artists from the area actually go into the classroom and teach the children with various hands-on art projects. The artists charge only a nominal fee and the cost of their materials.
• Madera High School—Sober Graduation Party
  Soroptimist International of Madera's donation to the high school helps to provide graduating seniors with a safe alternative to the parties that traditionally happen after graduation. Music and dancing are provided and there is generally a great raffle prize, such as a car, given to one of the seniors.
• Madera Community Hospital Dinner
  Soroptimist International of Madera's sponsorship of the Dinner is one of the year's community highlights. Various clubs, organizations, as well as doctors and their families provide an amazing array of food for this festival. There are games and activities for the children and music for the adults. Money raised in donated to Madera Community Hospital.
• Camp Fire USA Cottonwood Creek Club
  Our club began sponsorship of this Camp Fire club three years ago. This club is located in a Self Help Enterprises Apartment Complex where children pre- school through 7th grade live. Our sponsorship helps provide good behavior incentives for the children who attend this Camp Fire USA club.
