SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL of MERCED
COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS
Soroptomist International of Merced has several service
projects designed to meet community needs.
Support of the Merced County Library
Childrens Room
SI Merced has contributed over $15,000 over the course of several years
to the Merced County Main Library Childrens Room to buy books for
children. The club continues to donate funds to the library for this purpose.
Support of Sixth and Seventh Day
meals
The club makes annual donations to this service that serves meals on weekends
to the elderly and physically isolated that are served by Meals on Wheels
during the regular work week, but who would go without food or a personal
visit on weekends.
Support of Hinds Hospice
The club makes donations every year to support the ongoing good work of
Hinds Hospice. The club appreciates the care and compassion they bring
into the lives of families during times of great stress.
Support of the Los Banos Grasslands
Environmental District and Their Program, Wild on Wetlands
The club not only donates funds to this valuable environmental organization,
members also work during their annual ecological and wild life program
where children and adults can learn about and share experiences in the
wetlands.
Support for Children through the
Celebration of Kids Programs
The first segment of a Celebration for Kids is a shopping trip for children
in need. The club donates funds to and proviudes volunteers for a program
co-sponsored by Mervyns. Children in need are selected to go on a shopping
trip at Mervyns before school starts. Each child is provided with
a backpack and $100 to ourchase school clothes. The second segment is
a program that provides celebrations at the county womens shelter,
a Womans Place. Club members buy cakes, drinks, toys, and books
to share with children who are being housed at the safe house with their
mothers.
