President Jeanette
Merchant Soroptimist International of Modesto, California, chartered on November 28, 1936, currently has 60 members and is part of Soroptimist International, which has clubs in 120 countries. Soroptimists work together in Modesto with local community and government leaders addressing issues that women value by developing and promoting projects in education, environment, health, human rights/status of women, international goodwill/understanding, and social and economic development. Our membership is composed of women of all ages, from all walks of life, cultures, and ethnic groups, who make a difference through service. We donate more than $150,000 each year to the Modesto area through our service projects, awards, scholarships, and other local community organizations and projects. Our local service projects are numerous and varied. Our Recognition Awards Program includes Making a Difference for Women Award, Women of Distinction and Advancing the Status of Women. Our cash awards and scholarships include annual scholarships for graduating high schools seniors, Youth Citizenship, Womens Opportunity, and Violet Richardson Awards.
