SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL of TURLOCK
COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS

Each year, Soroptimist International of Turlock holds an annual Softball Tournament. The tournament itself is held in March with all proceeds benefiting the Turlock High School Girls Softball Program. Coaches of the Turlock girls’ teams contact other area high school coaches to solicit teams for the tournament. There is an entry fee for each school, which generally pays for the cost of the umpires. Girls from the Turlock teams as well as Soroptimist members sell advertisements for a program that is put together by one of our Soroptimist members and copies are for sale at the tournament. Ads vary from $10.00 for a booster ad (lots of parents purchase these), $25.00 for a business-card ad, $50.00 for a half-page ad and $100.00 for a full-page ad. Trophies are donated for the event by a local bowling alley, owned by a Soroptimist member.

Soroptimist members bring goodies for the umpires (which keeps them waiting in line each year to work our tournament), as well as man the three gates of our local city-owned ballpark. Admission is charged will all proceeds going directly to the girls softball program. These proceeds average approximately $2,500 annually. Since most girls sports programs haven’t quite caught up to the boys programs in the way of funding, this has become the Turlock Soroptimist club’s way of evening up the score a little. We have a great weekend together also.
