"S" Clubs are made up of students who wish to serve their school and community by working on worthwhile service projects. They are concerned with improving the quality of life for themselves and those around them through service. They work to cooperate with their school authorities to build schools with high standards and ideals, and to prepare their members to assume leadership roles in the business and professional world. Each Spring "S" Club members are invited to attend a leadership conference with students from the other "S" Clubs in the Sierra Pacific Region. This is a great opportunity to meet and interact with leaders of other high school from all over central California. Soroptimist International of Hanford is proud to be the sponsor of two "S" Clubs. Hanford High School "S" Club was chartered October 12, 1993. During its 12 plus years this organization of high school students have given back to their school, their community, our Soroptimist Club through the avenue of SERVICE. Following are a few of the projects the current group of "S" Club members have undertaken during the past 3 years:
They also have their own fundraisers to raise money to attend the annual "S" Club Conference. On December 4, 2003, our Soroptimist Club chartered its second "S" Club at Hanford West High School. Even though this is a newer club they have been active in service. To date they have been active in the following service projects:
Our Soroptimist Club has thoroughly enjoyed this project. It has given us the opportunity to see and work with the "cream of the crop" of the teenage generation. We have found these High School students to be friendly, energetic, willing and fun loving and yet very serious when it comes to "service." Soroptimist clubs that like working with teenagers are encouraged to establish an "S" Club on their local High School Campus. It takes A SPONSORING SOROPTIMIST CLUB, a minimum of 15 willing students; 1 Campus Advisor and 1 Soroptimist Club Advisor to charter a club. If this is something you are interested in, please feel free to contact Cheryle Boeve and/or Judy Neill, your Region "S" Club Conference co-chairmen. They will be more than happy to give you additional information and any assistance they can. |
