Every spring, Soroptimist International of Visalia holds a recognition dinner to honor women who have helped to improve the status of women in any one of the six program areas of service. An award is also given to a woman for helping other women and making a difference in their lives. This annual program reinforces the principle of advancement of the status of women by honoring women leaders in the community who have done so by either by example or by direct actions in her respective field. Clubs seek out, identify, recognize and honor women who consistently and effectively use their resources, talents, and influence to assist other women in achieving their potential. This woman must be active in working for the elimination of economic, legal, or political discrimination of women. Our club chooses to honor this woman with a framed certificate and a monetary donation to the charity of the recipient's choice. Beginning at the local level, women who have made an outstanding contribution in business or as a volunteer in the community are honored. Peers recognize them aas women of exemplary character and integrity with significant abilities and demonstrated leadership. These women should be looked to as role models for other women. These women will have distinguished themselves in at least one of the Soroptimist areas of service - Health, International Understanding and Goodwill, Economic and Social Development, and Human Rights/Status of Women. |
