March 16, 2007 is the deadline for all newsletters to be received by the Bulletin Awards Committee. The February newsletter is the last issue eligible for judging in the competition.

The quality of newsletters has been excellent this year. Our committee will have a tough time selection the first place winner. We congratulate all of you who have entered the competition because the content has been so good.

Please remember to bring your newsletters to the Regional Conference. There will be a table set up to display the newsletters. Any club is welcome to bring samples of their newsletters to add to the display. Last year, several editors shared with me that they got some really good ideas from reading other newsletters.

Newsletters are judged on content. The best way to be sure you are including what the judges are looking for, is to pay close attention to the Club Bulletin Evaluation. There are nine categories, such as "Club News", which should include information on the club's events, service projects, awards and scholarships such as Women's Opportunity Awards, etc.

Newsletters are a wonderful tool for recruiting new members. Many clubs publish extra copies to leave in banks, gyms, beauty shops and to give to prospective new members.

Improving bulletin quality and communication is the aim of this competition. Scoring categories that are used in awarding points include:

  • President’s Message - 20 points
  • Club News - 15 points
  • Ways and Means - 10 points
  • Committee Reports - 10 points
  • News of SIA - 10 points
  • Profiles - 10 points
  • Calendar - 5 points
  • Notices and Reports - 10 points
  • Creativity - 10 points

Submit six newsletters, published between July 2006 and February 2007, for scoring. Newsletters can be emailed to the committee members! Simply click on the link to the right to Email All Judges. Attach your bulletin file and cover letter. Also send a copy (without the cover letter) to the Region Secretary. For conventional mail, a complete list of committee members’ addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses are included in the mailing. Or request a region directory from the Directory Chairman.

Good luck with your newsletters! Please call or email your Sierra Pacific Region Bulletin Chairman, Pat Maisetti , if you have any questions.

The Letter of Intent is provided here to download in .pdf format. Some browsers may require a few extra steps to access the Letter of Intent. If you have downloaded Acrobat Reader and clicked on "Letter of Intent" in the right navigation bar, but it did not open the file, please do the following:

  • Right click “Letter of Intent” in right navigation bar
  • Left click on “Save Target As”
  • Choose where you want to save the letter. If you wish to save it on your desktop for easy access, browse to desktop and save “letter_of_intent.pdf” to the desktop.
  • You will be given an option to open the file. Click “open”. The letter will open and you will have the option to read it or print it.

Some systems may require you to open Acrobat Reader first. If you need assistance with this, please do not hesitate to contact the Tech Team. We’re here to help.
