GENERIC EMAIL

How to Contact a Member

You have reached this page because you clicked on the name of a member, committee chairman, officer, director or club president in the Soroptimist Sierra Pacific Region.

We're sorry, "live" email links are not offered at this time. But you can email this person by creating an email address manually.

How do I create a generic address manually?

Which of the generic user names should I choose?

Who will receive the email and where?

Why did the email I sent to a generic address get a reply from a different address?

What is the purpose of generic addresses?

Who came up with these specific generic addresses, and will they change again?

Guidelines for creating Club Addresses

How do I create a generic address manually?

Choose a "generic" user name from the lists below and follow the user name with the "at" sign-@. Follow that with our region's domain name, "soroptimistspr.org". It should resemble GenericUserName@OurRegionsDomainName.org.

Which of the generic user names should I choose?

Select the generic user name which best describes the individual's office, committee or leadership position. Use a club's generic to contact its club president and treasurer.

Who will receive the email and where?

All generic addresses are forwarded to the "regular" email address of a single individual, at the address of their choice.

Exceptions:

  • Club generics are delivered to both the president and treasurer of the club.
  • Email sent to a co-chaired committee is delivered to both co-chairmen.
  • Finally, in rare cases, a member who has email will receive mail for a member who does not have email, or is temporarily unable to respond.

Why did the email I sent to a generic address get a reply from a different address?

You will never receive email from a generic address. All replies will come from a "regular" address.

What is the purpose of "generic" addresses?

The generic addresses were created to make correspondence between members, the board and the clubs easier. With generic addresses you do not need to know the private email address of an officer or committee chairman, or even the person's name for that matter, to contact them on region business. When an officer ends their term of office the generic address goes along with the office, not the individual.

Who came up with these specific generic addresses, and will they change again?

The generics we use today have evolved over time-and will very likely continue to evolve. On July 1, 2006 the Tech Team altered the generic addresses dramatically, but at the same time made them more intuitive. Another change was the elimination and replacement of several of the region's standing committees in response to SIA's recommendations for region restructuring.

Effective July 1, 2006 the generic user names listed below replace any pre-existing committee generic addresses.

Guidelines for Creating Generic Email Addresses for Clubs

  • Clubs will continue to bear the prefix "SI" as in SIModesto.
  • None of the club generics include the word "of" even though some clubs speak their club name this way.
  • All words are spelled out, no abbreviations for North or County.
  • No hyphens, no spaces.
  • NEW: With the change of SI Mid Santa Cruz County's name to SI Capitola-By-The-Sea, it was only fair for SI of The Sierras to get their "the" back. Formerly SISierras, this club's generic address is now SITheSierras.
  • Burlingame-San Mateo-Mid Peninsula, due to length limitations remains SIBurlingameSanMateo…sorry.
  • And, as always, although capital letters are used to make them easier to read, email addresses are never case sensitive.

If you have any questions about the generic email system, contact the region Email Administrator.
